In order to prevent this effect, Ji et al. One of the crucial problems in the design of sandwich panels is their delamination during impact, which results in loss of material consistency. The authors noticed increased adhesiveness between aluminium and epoxy resin as well as an increase in energy absorption by IPC foam with the addition of silane. In order to increase the adhesion between the open cell aluminium preform and the polymer, some of the preforms were coated with silane. They have obtained IPC foam by infiltrating an open-celled aluminium foam with an uncured epoxy resin containing glass microspheres. investigated the energy absorption of IPC foam (interpenetrating phase composites). Another work is devoted to the main problems of dynamic loading of sandwich structures. Other ballistic resistance tests concerned polyurethane foams with aluminium cladding, in which the authors tested resistance to firing with cylindrical and conical projectiles in the 170–240 m The authors proved the ability of the tested material to absorb ballistic energy. The produced metal foams in combination with the ceramic fluid were tested under ballistic loading using 7.62 × 51 mm M80 and 7.62 × 63 mm M2 projectiles. tested metallic foams produced by powder metallurgy method based on 2 mm hollow steel balls and steel powder with 44 μm particle size, which was a matrix material. Metallic composite foams are light, porous, high-strength materials that can absorb significant amounts of energy. The topic of metallic foams as layers in composite armour, including their ballistic effectiveness, was described, among others, in the works of Garcia-Avila et al. Also, the authors of this work took up the subject of layered composites as ballistic shields. Complex solutions using metals, ceramics, and polymers have been described in several publications. Multi-layered ballistic shields are used both for personal and object protection. For personal protection, it is common to use composites reinforced with Kevlar or Twaron aramid fabrics as well as those based on ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene fibres of the Dyneema or Spectra type. In recent years, hybrid composite materials have become increasingly popular, entering the trend of seeking new solutions as ballistic barriers (shields) or kinetic energy absorbers. Performed simulation supports the detailed analysis of the impact energy dissipation for each of the samples.Ĭontinuous development of firearms has led to a search for modern solutions and materials for the personal protection of life and strategic military facilities. Metallic foams are proven to have only a remote influence on the impact load, while, when filled with polyurethane resin, they show resistance to the overshoot. The obtained results from numerical analyses are verified with experimental results. In the simulation of deformations of viscoplastic bodies, the Lagrange and Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamic (SPH) methods are applied. In order to accurately reproduce the foam structure, a computed microtomography (CT) system is used. Next, a numerical simulation in the ABAQUS environment is performed. The ballistic resistance of modern hybrid materials to direct firing of a 5.56 × 45 mm SS109 projectile and during quasi-static piercing test is examined. The main objective of this study is to test the energy absorption capacity of Zn-Al alloys filled with various polymer materials (epoxy resin, polyurethane resin and silicone). ![]() In recent years, hybrid composite materials are of increasing interest during the search for new materials to be used as ballistic barriers (shields) and kinetic energy absorbers. ![]() ![]() This new species may force a rewrite of the human story. This study demonstrates that biomaterials developed to have specific regulatory capacities for immune cells can be used to control the early inflammatory responses of implanted materials and induce osteogenesis.Ī Schematic diagram of biomaterial-mediated macrophage polarization and MSC osteogenesis. Through a dual-wavelength photosensitive switch, BCP-GNC releases interleukin-4 in the early stage of osteoinduction to target M2 macrophages and then releases dexamethasone in the later stage to target immature DCs, creating a desirable inflammatory environment for osteogenesis. Accordingly, a dual-targeting nano-in-micro scaffold (BCP loaded with gold nanocage, BCP-GNC) was designed to regulate the immune responses of macrophages and DCs. We found that osteoinductive BCP directed M2 macrophage polarization and inhibited DC maturation, resulting in low T cell response and efficient osteogenesis. Herein, we investigated the roles of macrophages and dendritic cells (DCs) during the osteoinduction of biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP) scaffolds. Currently, it is challenging to accurately regulate the innate and adaptive immune responses to promote osteoinduction in biomaterials. Although the mechanisms by which some immune cells promote regeneration have been revealed, the biomaterial-induced immune response is a dynamic process involving multiple cells. The immune response of a biomaterial determines its osteoinductive effect. ![]() ![]() ![]() In Europe, the clinical manifestation of muscle pain was found on a higher percentage, in a study of 1420 patients, 62.5% of them experienced muscle pain. And when I’m constructing it, I’m thinking that maybe they parachute every time to sell their ice. But it all changes in that pre-production phase when I’m constructing the world and when I’m imagining how those characters would live every day. So, all of my characters, both from this film and my film before Nestor, had a hat or a beanie mainly for aesthetic purposes. I started doing animation relatively recently, and when I started this film two or three years ago I was still not very comfortable drawing hair on characters. GONZALEZ: That’s a funny story actually, because I actually designed the characters wearing hats before I knew that hats were gonna be important for the film. It was very interesting, just refining everything a little bit better until we got to the end result.ĭEADLINE: One thing that stuck in my mind as I watched the short was, “Why do they keep buying these hats?” Where did the idea for the hat flying off every time come from? I started the film with three or four colors, but I was always adjusting slightly until I hit the right spot that I felt would both please me aesthetically and enhance the story of the film.ĬAETANO: There were actually little tweaks you were doing as we went along. In this case, the limited color palette was really important to contrast the warmer colors of the human side of the characters with the cold, harsh colors of the outside. For me, one of my biggest concerns as a director is to find a way of combining things that I like aesthetically, but also making them important conceptually. GONZALEZ: I have three things that I always incorporate in my illustration style – use of perspective, which comes from my love of architecture, very strong dark shadows and limited color palettes. But the animation itself is traditional frame by frame animation that we draw directly on our graphic table.ĭEADLINE: Can you talk about your color choices? It’s a very small palette. It all started with sketchbooks on my graphic diary, and that was the main reference for it. ![]() So, instead I focused my energy on trying to find a way digitally to emulate the same style that I initially started drawing for the film. So logistically speaking, we would have to ship the papers back and forth and it would be a production nightmare. It was just me and Ala Nunu, and she was living in France and I was living in Portugal. Initially, I was planning to make this film only on paper, but the animation team is very small. GONZALEZ: It’s a digital animation, but it does try to emulate that more organic filling of paper and pencil. And João came on board and we’ve been doing stuff together ever since.ĭEADLINE: How did you achieve this style of animation? We’re not a regular production company, we’re a cooperative of art directors and animators that come together and try to help each other out. And from then on, João was invited to be a part of the cooperative, COLA Animation. You guys are gonna like each other.” So, that was the excuse to come together and hit it off. We were both in a festival in Portugal and she called me up and said, “Oh, you guys need to get in touch. She’s the third person responsible for this film and animated half of the film. So, I know roughly what the theme of the film is gonna be about. I start to draw a lot regarding the house, and I try to figure out the rules of the world building I’m creating.
